Using a field to find?

Newbie here. I've read and can't find an answer to this so I apologize if I overlooked a previous similar q&a.

My table has a field called "type". There are only two options on the value list, either "tractor" or "trailer". I need a calculation field to show how many "tractors" and how many "trailers" when viewing them on a portal. Any ideas?

Am I trying to do this all wrong?

I don't know whether you are doing this wrong because you haven't given many details of the real purpose or context of your query - the attached file is one way.

And welcome to the forums.

Thanks for your response. The main issue was I needed to learn the Case function to turn them into a number. Then a sum field did the rest.
