I know there is a good explanation for this but to me it just seems glitchy. I created a container field and a button used to “store as a reference only” a pdf file. I also created a calculation field to show the path for troubleshooting.

Sometimes it stores the path differently and I don’t understand why.

Example -

file:../Incoming/Drawings/FB/Area/Lines/12540_00.pdf

filewin:/Z:/RFT/ Incoming/Drawings/FB/Area/Lines/12540_00.pdf

in other records it will show the same file as

file:12540_00.pdf

filewin:/Z:/RFT/ Incoming/Drawings/FB/Area/Lines/12540_00.pdf

This database is going to be used by Mac and PC users. I would like to figure out why the referenced path is sometimes different and if possible I would like to include the relative, full local and full remote Mac & PC paths.

I should also mention I have worked on this database on a Win7 machine with FM11 trial and an XP machine with FM10. The end users (and me) will have the FM11 upgrade shortly.

Cheers

So, multiple users, and I presume you will host the database with FMPro or FMServer - either way you will need a central storage point for these files if you are storing as a reference.

The file paths are dependent on the type of machine used at the time to create the referenced link - hence you will see filewin and filemac.

It is difficult to give a fuller answer until you say how you will host the DB and where you will store the referenced files.
