John Chamberlain Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 I have a layout that defines a piece of equipment. I locked the fields that contain the S/N, date acquired, size, etc. so that the casual user could not accidentally change them. But now I have to allow for the addition of new equipment. I have created a different layout that only contains those locked out fields. Is there a scripted way to unlock the fields, then lock them again once the new equipment is entered? TIA
spongebob Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 There are two approaches to your problem. 1) Lock all the fields on a layout according to a Global Variable. In the Security Priveleges you can make access to the record via a layout dependent on a condition. Note, you cannot individually define that "only this or that field" is locked or not. Either all on the layout or nothing. 2) Another rather novel approach is this one: http://fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?fid/31/tid/214063/pid/354668/ and look at this example http://www.databasepros.com/FMPro?-DB=resources.fp5&-lay=cgi&-format=list.html&-FIND=+&resource_id=DBPros000761 love spongebob
