I'm using the Line Item portal technique described in the Filemaker training manual and have a question about how to select values. In the technique it uses a related value list to select the foreign key value of the related line item. I'm trying to replicate this functionality without the requirement of selecting the foreign key value. In other words, I want to use the item description to choose a line item rather than the foreign key value. Is there any tutorial out there how to do this?

James, you could format the foreign key as a popup menu set to use a value list of ID and Description, only showing the description. Or, a popup selector window, if the popup menu is unwieldy.

Directly selecting the ID is much better than matching on a text value to get an ID.
