So I have this solution ready to compile, and I want to create a "dot-3" tag (&$^# Windows!) that's not already in use.

Is there a registry, or some "official" database somewhere?

Looked at all three links. It appears that there is no "official" registrar for extensions, otherwise one would think that one of the sites you pointed out would mention it.

Ah well.
