Bruce Herbach Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 HI, I have a development server running on a Mac Mini. Currently the ram reserved for database cache is set to the default of 64 Mbytes. The server indicates that this values can go up to 800 mbytes on the system. What is the recommended setting for this? What are the advantages to increasing the value? Are there any negatives side effects to setting this to a higher value? If so what are they? Thanks very much. Bruce Herbach
Vaughan Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Have you read the server white paper? Make the cache as large as it recommends. Negative effects are that no other application can use the RAM. But the idea of the server is to optimise hosting FM databases, right?
Wim Decorte Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 The potential negative side is that your "unsaved cache %" goes up and that's data you could lose if your server crashes. But since FMS cycles through the cache once per second by default (that's the setting directly underneath the max cache size) you should be safe enough. If you were to increase your cache cycle interval then you're running more risk.
Bruce Herbach Posted June 18, 2010 Author Posted June 18, 2010 Vaughn, Wim, I set the server to the max suggested setting of 800 Mbytes and left the flush cache setting a 1 second. Thanks very much for the suggestions. Bruce
