Using Filemaker to check if a network path is valid

I am trying to find out the best way to process, in a script, whether a network file path is valid. Can I do this natively in Filemaker or am I going to have to do this in Applescript?

Try exporting a record to the intended path. If it errors then the path may be wrong, if no error then it must be okay.
