omegagoh Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 (edited) My FMPA8.5 is having problem recognizing layout theme installed and repeatedly asking me to re-install (which I did). Any idea how to resolve the problem? Please refer to the attachment which I wasn't able to upload earlier. The error message appear when I try to create a new layout. Lee Smith Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I've never seen this error before, and I wasn't aware that you could install FileMaker without installing the themes? Is this a brand new machine, and you are installing FileMaker for the first time, or has this machine been in operations for awhile and it is just now show these symptoms? Your screen shot looks like you are using a Windows machine? If so, are you current with service packs? Did you just upgrade your operating system. Any recent changes to OS, software, etc.? Lee
omegagoh Posted June 25, 2010 Author Posted June 25, 2010 Dear Lee, Yes, I am using Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1 for about a year. There is no changes to OS. After much try, I guess it was due to prior installation of FMPA11. The error remains even after I uninstalled FMPD7, FMPA8.5 and FMPA11 (I was away on a non-FM project), clean the registry entries then re-install FMPA8.5 (as my current project is running on FMP8.5 with FMS8). In fact, to my horror, I got the same error running FMPD6. The theme files were in the respective directories but FMPD6, FMPD7, FMPA8.5 just couldn't "find" them, only FMPA11 can find its theme files. Just wonder is it due to the limitation in Windows Vista or FM is trying to force users (and developers) to use the latest version of the software. Thanks you for your time! Regards, Omega Goh
Vaughan Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Create a new user account in Windows, log-in to that account and see if the error persists.
omegagoh Posted June 25, 2010 Author Posted June 25, 2010 Dear Vaughan, Yes, I did that too - it was one way to extend the trial period of some trial software. It seems to me the only way is to backup all my stuff, restore to factory default and re-install all my programs - which I am trying to avoid as much time required. Any better suggestions? Regards, Omega
