Placing a field in his proper place

Hi, and sorry in advance for my bad english.

I have recently installed Filemaker 11 and I am having a bit of trouble with a very simple task.

I have selected the "People Management" starter solution, that has 3 tables (employee, goals, issues). Below the name of the employee, there are different fields and even below, the goals and issues tables.

I just want to create new fields that come below the name of the employee, for example, between "last name" and "office phone".

I have entered in "manage database" and created a new field, supposedly inside the "employee" table, but in the end the field comes below everything, and in black font.

I would like it to be above, in the place I want, and with the proper font.

I know this is a very simple thing, I still have to understand how the program works, but it would be helpful right now.

Thanks a lot!

Welcome friedrichapple! :laugh2:

Select View > Layout Mode

All changes to a layout must take place here.

To set your general defaults: Don't select anything on your layout and go to Inspector (that is the i icon top right on your status toolbar). I believe the tab says 'appearance' (I don't have 11 on this box) but it shows setting the font size, color etc. You would also set your default background. Play around with these settings with fields selected to see what they do.

Once you become familiar with Inspector, select your field and drag it up to where you want it. Select Inspector to change the background, font color from black and any other changes you wish. When you go to Browse mode, you will be asked if you want to save your changes.

And your english is great!
