saralee Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Hi all, I have several tables related to each other (tblBabies, tblHouseholds, tblStudies, tblLanguages etc) I also created portals about the babies info in the tblHouseholds. Problems occured when I tried to create new records of households with babies' information in the web version after I published the database. In the developer's end, I set the baby ID to be generated automatically, but it is not doing it in the web end. And the error message "This record cannot be modified in this window because it is already being modified in a different window." popped up when I was trying to input info in the portal. Anybody could explain why? Can I enter info in the portal or it can just display related info from other tables? Please advice. Thanks!
Matthew F Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I don't have an answer to your problem. However, I do think you should be able to see related data and enter data into portals with web based solutions. A couple of things were not clear to me after reading your post, however. Are you using the Instant Web Publishing (IWP) feature of Filemaker or some other method of web publishing or are you simply allowing FMPro clients to connect over the internet? Also it was unclear what you meant by the statement, "I set the baby ID to be generated automatically". Do you mean that this is an auto-entered serial number or are you running a script? I don't understand how you can be getting error messages in a web based-interface. I thought that error messages only pop-up if you're using an FMPro client.
saralee Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 Thanks for getting back to me : Sorry about the confusions. Yes, I simply used the Instant Web Publishing at the developer's side. Regarding the babyID field, I meant it is an auto-enter serial number. It is not generating serial number in the portal at the client's web end. The error messages popped up at the client side (a web-based interface). I'm not sure whether that is FMPro client or not (sorry!). I simply went to the URL given in the IWP setting dialog and login as the administrator to access the database. Or maybe I should try to login as a client/guest? Please advice. Thank you! :
Matthew F Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 OK. It sounds like you are using Filemaker Pro to host the database via IWP, and you are trying to access the database with a web browser, such as Internet Explorer. I'm still not sure about the source of your problem. The error message that you describe is usually a temporary problem that occurs if someone else is using the database and is currently editing a field that you are also trying to change. Are you sure that, on the host machine, there is no record being modified? I did not know that a web browser would give you error messages like this.
