Export from FMP and then import into Bento

Featured Replies

Hi All~

I am trying to export a .csv or .tab file from FMP for import into Bento. When I do this everything works perfectly except for a group of fields arranged in a table.

Think Line Item Invoice:

Date | QTY | Item Descrip | Unit Price | Total

7/9/10| 1 | Widget | $1 | $1

7/9/10| 2 | medals | $3 | $6

When FMP exports the .csv for this part it will export something like this.

7/9/10 7/9/10

1 2

Widget Medals

1 3

1 6

Basically it's combining the data vertically instead of horizontally.

Does anyone have an any idea on how to arrange the data by specific date and item rather than all the dates in one cell and all the item QTYs in another cell?

I can provide a .csv or .fp7 of what I'm encountering.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

What table are you exporting? Line item export should give exactly what you are looking for.

I'm not exactly sure I understand your question. I'm exporting the table that the information is in. there's only one.

How do you do a line item export?

It is of note that I didn't build this FMP DB but am trying to work with it. Originally it had a lot of security on it. I couldn't get inside it to see relationships or anything. So I exported it as a File Maker Pro Database and was able to find the fields that were giving me problems. This is when I found out the table didn't seem to keep the same formatting as it shows. (see example table above)

Like I said I'm more than happy to show you what I mean if you'd like. I'm cautious of just uploading the document here as the data is not my data.

Thanks again for all of your help. As always if I'm in the wrong place please let me know and I'll go seek help elsewhere...
