Adding cash draw and bar code reader to fm system

Sorry to ask this kinda question but I am really new at this (have been using fm 8.5 for a few years now) I have just opened a shop created a basic till and booking in system. I need it to open the cash draw, do I need a printer (epsom example) or can I some how connect it directly with a script? The draw has a rj11 connection. Again if I do need a printer can these be turned off as we generally don't need receipts. Also, I am interested in a bar code reader can this also be connected? Sorry it this is too much lol

As for the barcode readers check out this link

Depends on the drawer, but if it has RJ-11, it probably needs to connect to a receipt printer to work.

I use Star receipt printers and I can open a drawer by printing a blank layout - nothing prints. Other brands likely do the same.

Some cash drawers have a serial interface and would be connected directly to the host and controlled by serial commands. This is faster (no seconds waiting for a print job to queue up), but more expensive and difficult to set up.
