Nestor Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Hi, we have Filemaker server 8 and will be upgrading to FM server advance 11. In order to install the upgrade do i need to uninstall Filemaker Server 8 first? If so, how do i find out the serial number for # 8 since i lost the sleeve with the key. THanks
Carl Horton Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 First off, as FileMaker Server 8 and FileMaker Server 11 have differing minimum requirements, make sure the machine meets these new requirements. They can be found here: http://www.filemaker.com/products/filemaker-server/server-11-specifications.html Next, while it might be technically possible to simply perform an upgrade, a clean install is much more likely to work correctly. In any case, I did not need my FileMaker Server 8 license when I upgraded, but you can easily find it by opening up the FileMaker Server Admin application for FileMaker Server 8 and logging into your server. It's on the summary tab where it says License Key.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 I do not think you need the install key to remove Server 8. Steven
Wim Decorte Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Steven is correct: you do not need the install key for uninstalling FMS8, and you do need to uninstal it first. Can't remember if the admin console for FMS8 shows you the license key. I know it does in 9 through 11. Look around for a button on the main console screen.
