CatLady03 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 I have what seems to be a pretty simple task, but for the life of me, can't figure out how to do this. I'm using horizontal portals in a layout to display the records in the table in individual rows. Each row is in its own portal with the specific record defined in the portal setup. There are two groups of records and they each have a "type" the sets them apart. There are only six records in each group. I have already created the summary fields for totalling all records. I just can't seem to create totals for each group. I need to total/summarize the balance of each group in a row beneath the respective group. And this is all in one single page layout. Here's an example: TYPE A: Record1 $Balance Record2 $Balance Record3 $Balance Record4 $Balance Record5 $Balance Record6 $Balance [color:red]TYPE A TOTAL: $__________ TYPE B: Record1 $Balance Record2 $Balance Record3 $Balance Record4 $Balance Record5 $Balance Record6 $Balance [color:red]TYPE B TOTAL: $__________ TOTAL OF A+B $__________ (I have this one just fine.) If anyone has a suggestion, I would appreciate it. :thankyou:
comment Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 You need to add sub-summary parts to your layout, so that it looks like this: --------------------------------------------------------- Header (optional) --------------------------------------------------------- Sub-summary by Type (put the Type field here) --------------------------------------------------------- Body (as is) --------------------------------------------------------- Sub-summary by Type (put the summary field here) --------------------------------------------------------- Trailing grand summary (put the summary field here, too) --------------------------------------------------------- Footer (optional) --------------------------------------------------------- The sub-summary parts will show up on your report when records are sorted by Type.
CatLady03 Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 Hi Comment...thanks for always being kind enough to respond to my cries for help. : It is appreciated. To be honest with you, I did think about the sub-summary parts to try and get this done, but it just didn't compute in my head. It's like there's a sub-summmary that needs to display in the middle of the body and I don't understand how FileMaker does that. Sub-summary by Type (put the summary field here) -------------------------------------------------- ------- Trailing grand summary (put the summary field here, too) I don't understand which summary field you are referring to here. The "type" field is a text field. I didn't know you could summarize text fields...or can you? Should I convert type to some kind of number code instead and then use that as a summary field? I'm not quite getting this, I'm afraid. The summary field that does exist is Total Current Balance, but that tends to capture all records, so I'm using it at the bottom of the report, since I do need that information as well. Thanks for your time... Debbie
