nikosman Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Hi All, I just finished a migration of different databases from fp5 to fp7 on a FM Server 11.xx. Everything is rolling just fine. I just want to know if there is a way to hide all the database files in the remote window, except the" Main Menu.fp7" that is the starting point of all users. By doing that, I would like to avoid confusion for the beta users. Thanks for replying Nick
Wim Decorte Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 This is not strictly a FileMaker Server question. Probably the easiest way of doing this is to use a custom menu set and remove the Window menu item.
bcooney Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I see it as a FMS question. In older versions of FMS, you could host, but hide the file. afaik, you can hide it peer-to-peer in the Sharing dialog, but in FMS admin, you either show the user all the files that they have access to or none. I don't see a way to just show the MM file in a multi-file solution.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 I just want to know if there is a way to hide all the database files in the remote window, except the" Main Menu.fp7" Yes. In each file there is a tick box that says something like "Don't display in Open Remote dialog" or words to that effect. Just check it. This cannot be done while file is hosted. Steven
bcooney Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 So, Steven, you are saying that the Sharing settings will carry over when the file is served? That seems to contradict the settings in FMS Admin.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 The Admin Console does not directly determine whether the name of the file is displayed or not. That is done via FileMaker Pro. We are not talking about Database Visibility, which is the setting to display the names of the files that a user has credentials to access. This is a separate setting. Please see attachment screen shot. The setting for the actual multi-user sharing of the file is done via the fmapp privilege bit in Extended Privileges. HTH Steven
