Accessing fmpro9 over interenet

Featured Replies

I am going out of town and like to be able to access over the net. What all would a person need to do in order to access and input data over the internet. This is what i have:

1. computer that is on-line 24hrs

2. has its own copy of fmpro9

Thanks Jay.

You would need to have your databases up and running on FM Pro with FileMaker Network Sharing enabled. If you're behind a router, you need to port forward port 5003. Additionally, you need to note your external IP address (http://www.whatsmyip.net/) to access externally. You may also want to install something like DynDNS in case your IP changes.

Alternately, you may want to consider a FileMaker Hosting Provider, such as ourselves:

Hi John, Yes this is about being able to access it from outside my network

I have the router port forwarded(5003). And so When I enter the fmnet:/192.16.../filename..... Where do I enter the (Additionally, you need to note your external IP address)?

Jay.

If your computer has access tot he internet, will be up 24/7, and it's for temporary use than why not use LogMeIn? It's free, secure, and works on cross platform. Typically, you don't even need to play around with your router either.
