Joseph31 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I have FM Server 11: Hosting two (2) FM Databases. I would like to create a 3rd Database the will hold information that both databases can use. This way I only need to update one database and the other two (2) will have the same info. Name of New Database: Carrier_info Simple items like company rating etc... Questions: 1) How can I go to related record from Database 1 to the new database? Go to related record only seems to work when going to a layout on the same database. I would like to be able to open the related layout to see more info from either databases. 2) Also, if I create a new database (Carrier_info) and link the others to it -- will I loose the info for the records already associated with the old Carrier_Info page? I know this is a lot to ask but really not sure where to start?
bcooney Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Why do you feel that the tables should be split across multiple files?
Joseph31 Posted October 14, 2010 Author Posted October 14, 2010 Not sure if i understand --- I have two seperate hosted Databases on FM Server 11. First one -- Older Data with 30,000 Records... We still use this and update it from time to time... One of the tables in this database in called Carrier's (It holds insurance company info and ratings) Second one -- New Data base total different data but still requires us to to keep track of Carriers with ratings.... Instead of updating both data bases everytime we get a new insurance company I would like to start a 3rd database that they Both (First & Second) can use -- this way I only need to update one table for both databases. How can this work?
bcooney Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 (edited) Read page 120, Working with external data sources. You basically let one file see the other. http://www.filemaker.com/support/product/docs/fmp/fmp11_users_guide.pdf And in FM Help: Link Edited October 18, 2010 by Guest
