October 20, 201015 yr I saw somewhere that FM Server 11 cannot work on a Vista machine. Is that true? I have FM Server 9 running on an XP machine and I remember being told that that can't work either. Is this true? Mike
October 20, 201015 yr Yes, it is true, specs are here: FMS11_Specs They keep changing this for the last several versions, which is incredibly frustrating; for FMS10, Vista Business (NOT Home Premium) would work, but for FMS11, no version of Vista will work.
October 20, 201015 yr Author Should I bother to go with Windows 7, or should I just get Windows Server 2003 or 2008? Also, does anyone know if there's a less expensive copy for schools of the server programs?
October 20, 201015 yr Also, does anyone know if there's a less expensive copy for schools of the server programs? Please call FileMaker directly for education licensing. Windows 7? Should be fine.
October 20, 201015 yr Author What are the advantages of the server version over getting windows 7 professional? What are the number of files that can be hosted by FM server 11 with windows 7? Thanks
October 21, 201015 yr To preserve and enhance your investment in FIleMaker, I recommend you run your FileMaker Server on Windows Server 2008. Windows 7 is a workstation OS. Steven
October 21, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the comeback. I really only have a workstation type of machine to use at this point. If I use 7 do I need the professional version or the ultimate version? Mike
