VincentO'B Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Good day everyone. I have been asked to create sales reports summarised by month with each month running horizontally ie. in a row rather than a column, this seems to break all the rules as the summary parts only work in columns there seems to be no way to accomplish this other than adding fields for each month as it arises which is crazy. Has anyone got any ideas on this or can point me in the right direction, I have looked at a few FM examples of reports but can find nothing to give me a clue. Thanks in advance Vincent
bcooney Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Hello Vincent, You're describing the need for a cross-tab report. This type of report works contrary to FM's (and any databases) nature. Here is a demo from comment that shows a technique: http://fmforums.com/forum/showpost.php?post/355803/ He has posted several replies to such a requirement, and searching the forum for "cross" by user "comment" should help you out.
VincentO'B Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 Thank you so much, looks like just what I need, a brilliant example. I was beginning to think that I would have to push the data to Excel which I didn't want to do. On a side note I have been using this forum for about 10 years and still haven't mastered the search function but then Cross Tab is a new term to me so it wouldn't of helped anyway. Vincent
bcooney Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Here's a trick to using the Search, find anything by "comment"!
comment Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Alas, the search is limited to 250 results... :
VincentO'B Posted October 30, 2010 Author Posted October 30, 2010 Ha ha I know what you mean, Comment should get some kind of award for his efforts, a sort of Filemaker Oscar. There is a huge amount of really useful information on this site unfortunately its hard to find, I seem to recall one of the moderators stating that the search function was going to be updated sometime soon..........
