Greg Hains Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Hi. I just encountered a very strange problem. I am modifying layouts and scripts for a client who has an FMS server on their site. Whilst I experience the expected delays in operating over the Internet, over the last few days for some reason the script editing is really painful, yet the layout stuff still operates normally. A number of scripts are more than a page long and will take more than a second to render each line on my screen, often taking several minutes when things are really bad. Client at his end has no speed issues at all. I tried hosting the file on another server (also remote to me) with the same result, even though its a fast host and link. Is there anything in FMS (or the like) that may cause this delay? All Internet links involved are pretty good and mostly free of other traffic the majority of the time. Greg
bcooney Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 I would expect, as I'm sure you do, that everything would be slow, not just the script windows. Have you tried LogMeIn or the like rather than accessing thru TCP/IP?
Greg Hains Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 Hi BCooney, If the whole lot were slow then it would be expected and understandable, but only the script editor side is slow. It brings up the editor, maybe type the first character of the script, wait a long time then either finish that line and start the next line, or refresh that window starting it all over again. I was probably getting ahead of myself thinking there was a setting in FMS that somehow didnt allow scripts to be edited whilst in use or something like that, because, as I say, the layout stuff (whilst a little slow) is otherwise fine. Perhaps script editing is more sensitive to such time lag. I suppose I could use LogMeIn etc, but currently I am downloading the file at night to my machine, making the changes then uploading it again. Not the best method, but it works. Thanks for your response. Greg
