Hello,

Is there a way to show the field borders (or one of the four field borders..top, bottom, right, left) based on a condition?

For instance:

If value > 100

then show field borders (or bottom field border)

I've seen this done in an Adobe Acrobat form, but am not seeing the appropriate FileMaker command.

Thanks.

not exactly but you can use two conditionally formatted rectangles (button or text object) the one on top would be used as a mask and is one pixel smaller in each direction.

if you want fewer borders to show then just offset the boxes appropriately...

of course your field would be the top most layout transparent with no borders

Hi smgrey13

Ocean West has suggested a workaround that will provide you with a frame using the conditional formatting. You will find this a time consuming and a tedious job.

If you are just trying to have a field flag or draw attention to the field in someway, there are other ways that might work as good as this, or even better.

Have you looked at using the different ways to format with the Text and Fills that are available in The Conditional Formatting edit box using the tools such as underscoring, bold, italic, color. Or changing the fill of the text box, etc.

I'm not really certain what your goal is, so I'm reluctant to start tossing out ideas. Why don't you tell us the purpose, if there is one beyond just wanting the ability to turn on or off a frame.

Thank you both you for the suggestions.

I am creating a solution that needs to match an existing paper document. I thought I might import a background document (pdf) instead of building the entire page in FileMaker and avoid any font issues for the end user. Of course I would be adding FileMaker functionality as well and including fields (over certain areas of the page) that would, indeed, work in ways that Lee has suggested.

There are other instances where I would need to highlight some text on the background image. I thought that being able to add a stroke around the text might work, but, although Ocean West's suggestion answers my initial question, in my case, it would cover the text.

I may just need to rethink this.
