October 27, 201015 yr Hi all! I've been working on a report and I've got most of it down, but I'm having trouble with one of my summary fields. I have a field that can have either "Yes" or "No" as its answer and I would like to count the total number of times a user chooses "Yes." I created a "Summary" field called "Problems", but the options for "Summary" fields seem limited. For example, I can count the total number of times people answered, by choosing "Count of" but I would like it to count specifically the number of "Yes" answers. Does this make sense? Please do let me know if I haven't been clear. Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!
October 27, 201015 yr I have EXACTLY the same issue. I got around it in what I imagine is a very poor method. I am new to FileMaker and I am curious what the proper way to do that would be. My roundabout solution was to make two additional fields where the first, would be a calculation if (other field = "yes", 1 ,0). The other field did the same for "no". Then I used the summery calculation to total those new fields. Like I said, its not a very clean way, but was my temporary solution. Looking forward to hear about a better way to do that. Thanks!
October 28, 201015 yr Perfect. That eliminates the extra fields and allows me to do the calculation. Much cleaner. Thank you.
October 28, 201015 yr Author This is a great idea and very logical! For some reason, when I change my field to a "Number" type instead of "Text" type, my "Yes" or "No" text disappears. I've formatted the field to be Boolean, but the text doesn't display until I click on the field. Thoughts?
October 28, 201015 yr Author Yes. I haven't touched the report yet. I just switched the field from "Text" type to "Number" type. After having done so, the "Yes" or "No" answers don't show up anymore in browse mode.
November 2, 201015 yr Comment, your example is very clear. I appreciate your posting it and I have implemented it into my file, but can I as how you got the cute little check mark to appear next to your "Yes"? I see in your Boolean formatting your non-zeros display as 'a' but I can't figure out how that translates to a "check mark Yes" Is it some sort of conditional formatting? I don't really know anything about that. Thanks!
November 2, 201015 yr I see in your Boolean formatting your non-zeros display as 'a' but I can't figure out how that translates to a "check mark Yes" There are two instances of the same fields, overlaid. One supplies the "Yes" part, the other the check mark. "a" is displayed as a check mark when using Webdings font. Is it some sort of conditional formatting? The file was created before conditional formatting became available in version 9. Today I would have probably used it instead. I don't really know anything about that. Well? You seem like a quick learner - and it's not that complicated.
