Layout updates on live systems

Featured Replies

Is there any way to export a layout? I would like to be able to export and import layouts so I can work on layouts at home while users are adding and modifying records at work. Then I could come in to work with new layouts and update them at work without overwriting the database with an older copy of the file. It looks like I will have to work at night to change the layouts, and get into work before any data entry happens.

You can work on a dev copy of the file and then paste the layout into the live copy. Here are the steps I'd take:

1. Duplicate the layout in the live copy as a backup. Let's refer to the original layout as Cust_form.

2. Open your dev copy and nav to the newly designed Cust_form. Select All and copy.

3. Back to the live version. Nav back to Cust_form.

4. Select All and drag all far to the right.

5. Click in the upper left corner of the layout and Paste. You should now have all the elements from your new design in place and the old stuff off to the right. You can now delete the old stuff.

If you've added fields, however, in dev, you need to add them to the live system before you do this layout update.
