Robert Collins Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I just upgraded to Server 11 from Server 9 and have started to use the import/export features. My script exports csv files to the documents folder in FMS11 folder which is working fine. What I am having trouble with is getting other PC's on the same network to open the files. I have made sure the folder can be shared but when I open the folder on a client PC , and under 'my network places' , the folder 'Documents on Server (Server)' is visable but when I go to open the folder , I get the error Serverdocuments is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied. Any ideas would be very welcome
Steven H. Blackwell Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 What I am having trouble with is getting other PC's on the same network to open the files. I have made sure the folder can be shared [color:red]Whoa!! This is a very bad idea and practice here. Do not share this folder. OS level file sharing should not be employed on a FileMaker Server. Exactly what are you trying to do with these files? Maybe if we know that, we can work out a system to assist you. Steven
Robert Collins Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 (edited) I would like to view them by opening them on a client I have another database that FMS is hosting , that needs to import the csv left by the server. As FMS11 only imports/exports to 2 places (documents folder for FMS11 and a temp path), I have'nt got the option of exporting the file to a standard shared documents folder. Wim Decorte Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 If FMS is hosting a file that needs to import from what you previously dropped in the FMS documents folder then you don't need to set up a share, FMS can just import from that folder. If you want the export to be available to other network pcs then use a script sequence schedule to first run the FM export script and then copy or move the exported files to a network share somewhere on your network. That's much safer than enabling a share on the FMS machine itself (that can get out of hand and end up trashing your files).
Vaughan Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 My script exports csv files to the documents folder in FMS11 folder which is working fine... I have another database that FMS is hosting, that needs to import the csv left by the server. Why export to csv in the first place? Just import directly from FMP file to file.
