Finding in a Summary Field

Featured Replies

How do you find on a summary field?

When I go to find mode, I can't enter the field.

What am I missing?

thanks

Christopher

What would you expect to find? A summary field summarizes the current found set. The summary value does not belong to any specific record.

While this question admittedly is based on too many unsaid premises ... could we perhaps guess that the user are aware of the distinction between real summaries and aggregate functions.

If so must the solution be provided with a GetSummary('-calc with a relevant breaker value for the search. This could supposedly be invoice lines belonging to a certain paid amount in a sort of FIFO arrangement, if the summary is the running kind.

Say the scenario is a payment of $100 and the client/customer have a series of invoices unpaid. Here would a find not quite work ... but if you use the GetSummary( in a looping script will it work it's way towards where the running summary reaches the paid amount, provided the record is provided with a serial ID upon both the sorting and breaking is made.
