Self Referencing Relationship

Featured Replies

Hi just read a database book about solution to many to many relationship. One of them is "self referencing". I am just wondering if it is possible in FileMaker. If it is not, what other solution is available? Thanks.

Yes, self-joins work. What are you trying to do?

Hi just read a database book about solution to many to many relationship. One of them is "self referencing".

I am not sure you got this part right. A "self referencing" relationship (commonly called a "self-join" in database parlance) is a relationship between a table and (another instance of) itself. Such relationship can be one-to-many or many-to-many - same as a relationship between two different tables. So a self-join is NOT a "solution to many to many relationship".

In any case, self-joins - whether one-to-many or many-to-many - CAN be implemented in Filemaker.
