I am using Filemaker 11 advanced on Windows XP. I have a layout on which I have created a chart. I add a button, go through the button set up process and then find a have a button almost as high as the layout body. When I try to change the height of the button is bounces back to the same size. I can change the width. The anchors for the object are the default, top and left. I tried deleting the chart and re-creating the button to see if the cause was there but got the same behaviour.

Just tried on another layout and the same happens but shows it is not related to the body height as the button is the same height as before.

Tried again in a different database and there is not a problem. So, not a bug.

Opened a new Inspector pane hoping to be able to compare the characteristics of the good button and the one with a problem but both inspectors show the same data. Don't inspectors stay rooted to their file? Anyway, the inspector seems to show they are the same apart from the dimensions.

Is there some new feature I am missing?

It would best to post a file showing this.

I copied the layout, stripped of data, to a new file and the button is still stuck so here is the file.

In Layout mode, select the button. In the Inspector, select the "Appearance" tab and change Paragraph/Line Spacing/Height to something reasonable.

Thank you, that solves it. However, how did line spacing get to 500? I didn't change it. Could it be that it gets set by the first object created? I'll try. And, is it a natural leap of the imagination to think that button height is controlled by Paragraph/Line Spacing/Height?

Thank you again,

Norman

There is a bug (or a feature?): when you create a new object and set some of its attributes at the same time, these attributes become the default.

I wouldn't say "controlled" - but the button "resists" setting the height below the minimum required to display its text.
