Lost fields when printing

I am using Filemaker 4.1 for the Mac, When printing address labels from a database, Filemaker is randomly leaving out the Street address field. There are several hundred address's in the database and there is no pattern to which streets are going to be left off.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

What size is the address field on the printing layout -- is it only one line high? If it is it will appear empty of somebody enters an address with a carriage return as the first character (something that can happen often).

Are the same resords having their address left off when they print?

Are you using the latest patch level of FMP 4.1 -- 4.1v3? If not get the free update from http://www.filemaker.com/

Vaughan,

The address field is one line high. The records that are being left off are totally random. It changes every time we print. I will apply the patch, and look at the <CR> problem. But it is unlikley that it is the <CR> problem given the randomness of the street field being left off. Let me know if anything else comes to mind. Thanks for the ideas.

This is not one I've seen. I would try:

1) Run Norton Utilities (might be a disk directory problem)

2) Recovering the database

3) Replacing the layout (not duplicating)

4) Reinstalling FM

If none of this works, I'd probably need to see the file to be of more help. -bd

This is a long shot, but:

I had a similar problem years ago, and believe it or not, it was the printer cable's fault. Somebody at the printer manufacturer's tech support told me to try changing cables; she said they didn't admit the problem (poorly made printer cables) publicly, but it was definitely a problem.

May be worth a try. G'luck!
