Newbies binaryboy Posted March 24, 2001 Newbies Posted March 24, 2001 I'e just accidently deletedthe last recoerd in my Filemaker 4 database that I spent 2hours creating!! Is it possible to recover a deleted record? Very gratefull for any asiistance that might enable me to recover this record and save me from another 2 hours of toil. living in hope, BB
Newbies binaryboy Posted March 25, 2001 Author Newbies Posted March 25, 2001 I thought that would be the answer but unfortunately in my case the record was a new one just created so my backup would not include it! I was hoping there might be a way to recover the data like there is if you delete a file on your HD but the file is still there only the directory listing has been deleted. Is there any facility in FM or third party solution that makes a copy of the DB at regular intervals( like every 5-10 mins) to enable recovery if something goes awry? Thanks in advance. BB
LiveOak Posted March 25, 2001 Posted March 25, 2001 Sorry, I don't know of any way to recover a deleted record in FM. All you can do is restore from your last backup containing the record (if you have one). -bd
Vaughan Posted April 2, 2001 Posted April 2, 2001 FileMaker Inc have a TechInfo article about "recovering" deleted records which is both sobering and hilarious. It relies on the fact that there is few-second lag between the issuing of the delete command and the updating of the disk from the cache. Their instructions go something like this: after deleting the records but before the changes are written to disk, unplug the computer. Do not shut it down normally as this will update the cache, pull the plug out. Then take the disk to a data recovery expert. It's a reminder to backup regularly, and be really careful with the delete command. I'm looking for the article number but TechInfo is not available at the moment.
