I created a solution in FM 4 and it works great on the mac and win 9x platform. Our school district has moved to the win 2k platform. When I package and deliver the solution to the win2k machines most users have errors, and some don't. The errors range from printing problems to multiple installation.

Printing problem-Users that use the initial data file have no problem. Some users that print and had issues now when they try to print they get errors and the fm solution quits. They can take that data file and send it to me and I can print it just fine. Also, once their data file is "corrupt" I can create a new one and it works fine. So I am confused.

Also everytime a user starts up the solution it says that it is installing.

They do have multiple solutions installed on the machine.

I would appreciate any help that you can provide.

I continue to be perplexed by the number of reported problems with FileMaker and the Windows 2000 OS. I have hundreds of W2K installations (53 servers, bunches-o-clients) and have very few, minor problems. Note that all installations are FMP v.5. Perhaps you should consider the latest version of FileMaker since you have the latest version of Windows!

Although a devout Mac fan, I find the W2K Advanced Server platform superior to the MAC in almost every way. Speed, stability, management. My advice, always run your server OS as lean as possible with adequate RAM. As for the client reporting that FileMaker is installing (it is saying FileMaker, insn't it?) this sounds like an improperly configured MSI install package. And printing, I guess MicroSoft will never figure out how to do it! frown.gif" border="0

I'm also a devoted Mac user and have frequently made jokes about Windows users, but I must admit that My Toshiba laptop which came pre-installed with one of the later releases of Windows 95 has been amazingly bulletproof.

Don't know about Win 2000 though. When I read that the pages of source code for Win 2000 outnumbered everything ever created by the US Dept. of Defense up until then, I decided that it was one to avoid. Yikes!

Sorry about that, I tried to resist, but it was futile.

I got fed up at Win98, the progressive levels of bugginess in Windows code sickens me. Windows for Workgroups 3.11 was the last (and only) good version of Windows. I long for those days again.

Sorry that I could not be of more help!

Would anyone suggest FM 5.0 developer as a solution to the problems with my runtime not working with win2k?

When we package the runtime and create a msi file and deliver it to all of the machines 2 of the three solutions delivered work fine. The third one seems to be flawed. Every time I run the solution a pop up windows appears and states that it is installing again." The second issue that I am having is with printing, It sounds like Windows in general is more flaky when it comes to printing with FM.

Again any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the previous responses

Matt
