A really basic question re: email

Featured Replies

I have an embarrasingly basic question about emailing from within FM. How? I just can't get it to work. The manual is singularly unhelpful. I'm running FM4.0 on a Mac with Netscape as my browser/email.

I seem to remember that you cannot use Netscape. I think you can only use Claris emailer or another one. Could be wrong but I think that's the case.

Personally, I like the features of plug-ins such as SMTPIt and POP3It for email with FileMaker. -bd

The short answer to the original question is that Netscape will definitely not work. The only two email applications (aside from plug-ins) that work on a Mac are Eudora and Claris Emailer.

Thanks for the responses. What makes plug-ins preferable to Claris Emailer/Eudora option? And where do I get them? The only plug-in I have loaded is the Web Companion plug-in.

The SendMail function will only work with Eudora and Claris Emailer since those are both e-mail applications, while Netscape is a web browser. To send mail using Netscape you use the OpenURL script step. You then use the normal HTMl style commands for sending an e-mail message (i.e. MailTo:[email protected]?etc?etc?etc)
