Newbies carloscastrejon Posted May 2, 2001 Newbies Posted May 2, 2001 hi!, i'm new at this forum... do anybody know how can i connect a pc label printer (like zebra or eltron), to a mac and print using fm5? thanks!
LiveOak Posted May 2, 2001 Posted May 2, 2001 You have a couple of options: 1) Use a serial plug-in and hand compile the code necessary to instruct the printer to print what you wish. I've done this for Congnitive Solutions Barcode Blaster printers. For Zebras and Eltrons, the code is a little more arcane, but it can be done. You will probably need to build a custom Mac to Printer cable for the exact printer. This approach requires a Mac with a serial port. This could be a gPort (preferred) or a USB/Serial adapter. 2) Take a look at www.peninsula-group.com/FMaSpooler/Default.html These folks claim to have thermal transfer printer drivers that work with the Mac. I haven't tried them yet, but it would be a great thing. Implementing 1) is NOT for the novice user. 3) Skip the Zebra and Eltron (expensive) unless you need a very specific specialty label (material, adhesive, etc.) and take a look at the Brother P-Touch printers. Brother claims to have a Mac driver. These printers are thermal transfer and print on a continuous strip of plastic up to 1.5" wide (they have a cutter). -bd
Newbies Gerry Kwok Posted September 4, 2004 Newbies Posted September 4, 2004 Hello I'm new to the FM forum .... I use a shipping fulfillment house that is quite a distance from me. Currently I email them an word document, with names and addresses. They then manually print out a sheet and cut up the addresses into squares and tape each one to packages that they ship out for me. (sounds real stupid ... I know) My FileMaker Pro database (at home) has lost of orders (files) accumulating everyday. Question: Is there a way I can only email them a part of my FM database. (today's orders to be shipped) I don't want (need) them to get the whole database. Only today's orders that need to be shipped My fulfillment house has a Eltron Zebra Label Printer set up.(currently used for UPS) So I figure if I can do this it will save everyone a lot of time and effort. They'll open up the emailed FM file and have the Eltron Zebra Printer make all the shipping lables. Thanks G
Kurt Knippel Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 Sure, Just do a find on order date. Then export those records.
