fed Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 In my FMP solution, I link to a table from my secretary's computer. Her FMP solution must be on prior to launching mine in order for mine to connect to hers. Is there a way to disconnect from her table, from my side? Also, if she shuts off her computer while I am still connected to it, my FMP solution freezes. Will this cause data corruption? Thank you, Fed
Fitch Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Is there a way to disconnect from her table, from my side? If you mean you keep working while she shuts down, no. Her FMP application is the host. You are the client. Also, if she shuts off her computer while I am still connected to it, my FMP solution freezes. Will this cause data corruption? Possibly. At the very least it will fail to save data that you were creating or modifying.
fed Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 That sounds rather unstable. Is there a way around this without using FMserver?
Vaughan Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 You could put both files on the same machine so they are opened and closed together by the one user. Even better is to dedicate a machine to hosting the databases using the normal FMP client. Best option is a dedicated machine running FM Server.
