Newbies filemakergirl Posted June 5, 2011 Newbies Posted June 5, 2011 I have just returned to Filemaker after not using it for 5 years. My old filemaker 6 had great pages that connected to one another for a small business: invoice, contacts, payment info, monthly income calculations, estimate forms, letters.... in the FM 11 package I just bought there isn't even a place to enter payment info for invoices? I was hoping to start fresh with the new software, but I would lose so much from my old program. How is it possible that the new started solution doesn't have a way to track payments for invoices? I am not much for programming all this, so I wouldn't know where to start to set up monthly income reports and payment pages. Is there some package I am not aware of that has these layouts already set up? Thanks
VincentO'B Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 There are more and more posts like this, I would love to help you really I would but you may as well be asking how to build a swimming pool, forgive the sarcasm but there is a huge gap between the expectations of the novice user and Filemakers marketing blurb. Would you rewire the electrical system in your house yourself? I wouldn't. IMHO you probably need to find a friendly local developer or at least rtfm. Vincent

However, there are several things you should do to prepare for this. If you really want to change the files to take advantage of the new stuff in v 11, then start by reading the white papers available at FileMaker Inc on Migration. We have a Topic devoted to Migration, you might what to read the different post there. FileMaker completely rewrote the application with the release of v7. Lots of improvements have been added with the release of the different versions since, you have a lot of catching up to do, so read everything that comes with your application, and more. Good Luck, Lee
bcooney Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 There are many templates available. Here's one that is very comprehensive: FM Starting Point.
