I have a portal from which I am able to go to a portal row and copy conetent from two fields in the portal to fileds outside the portal using a go to portal row script without problems but in the same row, I have two additional fields that are lookups into another table that I also need to copy into outside fields as well. What happens when I invoke the script is the first two fields in the selected portal row works without issue but the two lookups field copies always comes from the first row of the portal and not the second. The portal itself works exactly as it should but for the life of me, I can't get the lookup files to work as they should. Any help on this would be great.

TIA

Bob,

You need to be careful working in a portal, because if you commit the parent record, you will "pop out" of the portal row. It is better practice, to gtrr and work in the child table.

That being said, I question the "copying" data goal as it raises the flag of a poor data model. Can you explain why you're copying?

hth,

Barbara

The copying is for a text dump to a legacy system. It is the only way I can do the deed. Question, how can I leverage the gtrr say of doing this vis the portal and the parent table. The PP environment works perfectly, it's the dump out to the legacy is what I need to do. Thanks for responding to me.

Perhaps if you described the format required by the legacy system, we would understand your goal and could make some useful suggestions.

Straight ascii text. Nothing fancy. Field content is simple text as well. I just need to get the lookup text residing in two fields in the portal row to be copied into two standalone fields. The amount of times this will be done is not much but it has to be automated to eliminate errors. HTH

I'm afraid that's not enough to make a suggestion. As a rule, you can export related fields along with the local fields - so it's not clear why you need to do what you are trying to (and I don't quite understand what exactly that is).

Question, would SetField work in terms of setting the contents of a look up into another field?

Sorry, I don't know what you mean when you say "the contents of a look up into another field". All we know so far that you have a portal - so presumably there's a parent table and a child table. Then you said:

I have two additional fields that are lookups into another table that I also need to copy into outside fields as well.

which makes no sense to me either. Do you want to explain what tables you have and the relationships between them, and exactly what data you want to export? If not, then this is not going anywhere, IMHO.
