Newbie needs to be pointed in the right direction on forum day one

New to this forum. I've been using FM Pro since I got my first mac, close to 20 years. Not sure (especially here) how to describe my level of expertise. I built & have modified my own databases since then, contacts, products, supplies, invoices, etc., but "use" them now more than change them. I've updated versions along the way to 9 where I am now. I don't remember which version introduced relational databases, but I have not taken the time to make mine relational. I would like to do so and could benefit if someone would point me in the right direction on this forum for that so that I don't bounce in on the wrong threads & become a nuisance. It makes the most sense to me to upgrade to FM Pro 11 & immerse with this forum as a resource. Pointers?

If you've never built a relationship, then no insult intended, but you're a novice. We're here to help, but I'd suggest buying FMI's training materials.

I don't remember which version introduced relational databases...

That was FMP 3.0 which was, in round numbers, about 15 years ago. Time flies... LOL

My first version was a Claris product FM2 I actually purchased when I got my first ever Mac, right after the tragic nightmare of an IBM PC Junior, but that's a different nightmare. It was the little all in one Mac jobber with a black & white screen which included my first database, HyperCard, late eighties. I still have that Mac in a box in my pantry. After that little Mac was an Si followed by a Ci with a Radius Rocket. Remember those? If you had those you may remember employing extension managers. We've come a long way. Anyway, i'll try to hook up on some training vids. I bought a series of Lynda DVDs to learn Dreamweaver & CS4. Maybe something like that & this forum. I'll try not to be a royal bother here. I do appreciate the vast experience that can be found here. Thank you all in advance.

Darrell

I'm embarrassed that I've gone 15 without becoming relational. Wow, time does fly. Kids, baseball, life. Empty nester now, time to get back up to speed.

Well, your timing is good. FMP 11 is really great.

Just forget everything you already know and FMP and start again. ;)

Vaughan, I like that advice.

I' e spent >10 years in adult education. It's hard learning the right way to do something new. It's even *harder* unlearning the wrong way, then learning the right way to do something.
