How do I print I print something bigger than A4?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm trying to print our a copy of each entry screen to insert into a manual and I am using a PC not MAC. I want to print screen really but, my entry screens are beyond the A4 Layout grid which would normally not be a problem because these entry screens are never printed until now.

I've tried going into print setup, properties, properties and getting it to shrink to fit page A4 and I've tried changing print size % down to 60% and I've changed orientation to LANDSCAPE but it still crops off the last bit of what I see on a full screen. The cut off point is where the vertical page size guide is. I cannot find a way of changing the page setup to make it A3 because the printer is only A4 - I'm sure this would move the grid to include the overhang.

Any ideas?

I think your best bet is to copy the layout and resize it to fit whatever page size you need and then print it to PDF...its a bit of a pain, but the quality will be preserved.

Another option: You can also go into Preview Mode and select Copy from the menu; this will copy the layout to the clipboard. You can then Paste into your favourite graphics program and resize to your heart's content.

Thanks guys,

I learnt a little trick which I'm sure everyone out there knows.

I ran the database on a Mac and held the ctrl (Squiggle) and F4 which turns your cursor into a crosshair and then you select the size of area you wish to graphically copy - then let go of the mouse and it is now a graphics file which you can import into MS Word for illustrations within a manual.

PC has the PtrScn button which then allows you to paste it into MS Word except PC's only seem to do the entire screen and not able to select area size.

On the Mac CapsLock+Shift+Command+F4 will take a snapshot of an entire window.

On Windows I believe Alt+PrtScn will snap just the foreground window.

Command-Shift-3 takes a picture of the entire screen.

Command-Shift-4 lets you create a marquee and takes a picture of that.

I like simple solutions, I do.

Whoops... dunno where my brain is lately. To take a snapshot of a window on Mac the keystroke is CapsLock+Command+Shift+4, not F4.
