August 23, 201114 yr I thought the latest version of Scribe included support for XLS files but it appears not to be the case? Are not all .xls files the same vintage? I have an issue where we are downloading files from a third party vendor and the file name is base36 gibberish and the value inside the xls file on the first few cells would provide the ample data needed to rename the file - this task alone would save about an hour a day. I know on the pc and around the web I had seen some xls to xlsx converters is there any chance that Scribe could provide this same feature of being able to convert the xls file so that it can be read - with out relying on any other software, or end user interaction? Now that Lion doesn't support XLS files (or is limited) this would be very useful.
September 15, 201114 yr It would be a cost-prohibitive job to perform this type of conversion; the XML spec for Excel is > 3,000 pages and we would need to implement almost all of it in order to create a new .xlsx document from an .xls file.
