For whatever reason, the past two layouts that I have created do not how the actual checkboxes for a field when I enter a value set and choose "checkboxes." It has never done this in the past, and has always shown the checkboxes even when empty. does anyone know why this suddenly changed? is this a glitch?

I'm not sure I know what you mean by "apply it to the line's black border." I'm having two problems (that may be related). 1) the checkboxes are not appearing, even though the values from the value list are appearing. when i mark them for various records, an "x" appears, but never the outline of the box. 2) when i insert lines into a layout, they disappear as soon as i place them. this was never like this before :(
