Will B. Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Our firm has purchased many copies of SuperContainer for our clients and it has been solid software. However, the application has alway been limited in scope in that the end users were our client's employees running SC within FMP. Recently we've been testing SC with IWP so that our client's clients could view images via IWP. It appears that for most Mac browsers the images will appear as expected the first time. However, out of six general use PCs, only one of them displayed images initially. The problem was either they had older versions of Java or there was some internal setting that prevented the images from appearing. Even once the PC's were configured properly, Explorer 8&9 show scroll bars and sometimes images that had appeared simply no stop appearing until you close the browser and start over. I could see using SC with IWP if the users were, say, our client's employees who would be willing to screw around with their PCs to get the latest Java or tweak whatever was needed to necessary to get images to appear. However, when the target user is the client's clients who are just wanting to see some images hassel free, then it would appear that SC and IWP is not be a viable option. Does anyone have some experience on this that they'd be willing to share? Thanks, Will
epeeler Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Well one of the key things with SuperContainer is it requires Java to load unless you want to have it run in noapplet mode. It's a tradeoff of being able to use drag-and-drop functionality or easing up the compatibility requirements. As for actually using it with IWP, it should work the same as simply in FileMaker Pro, with the exception of the networking hurdles inherent in any web system.
mbsteed Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Yes, we have turned off the Java applet on each SC field and it seems to be working although we don't have images on most records. http://www.uleth.ca/education/resources/fnmi-collection
Smef Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 remember that you can specify a width and a height in your URLS as well. I recommend doing this if you are getting scroll bars on some of your clients. Using the style=noapplet URL parameter will remove the requirement of having java, which shouldn't be needed as I doubt you want your guests uploading images!
