April 10, 200223 yr A selected portal in my invoicing db is printing sporadically or rather "on top" of the page hiding all of the line graphics behind the portal and extends down into the non portal area. I have been able to reformat the portal and it goes a way for a day and then is back the next. I can move the "infected" portal to the extreme right (off the page) and the invoice will print correctly. This has just started in the last 2 weeks along with an intermitent and sporadic bolding of characters within fields. When you navigate from field to field in the maximized view of the screen -- certian fields (random) bold and when you move out unbold -- as well as bold everything on the screen from time to time. When you are in the minimized view and stretch the minimized view to fit the screen -- it seems to go away. Does anyone have any similar experience and what is the solution to correcting the error?
April 11, 200223 yr Author BD Further to the problem (one more condition) the portal does not print any of the fields within the portal either (but show in the preview mode). This is happening on multi platforms with multi printers. We operate Windows 2000 networking server We operate 98 - xp for desktop operating systems We print to Minolta 350i work horses We print to HP lasterjet 5 We print to Desktop inkjets I scanned for viruses both on the server and independent from a cd set of files -- no viruses. The bolding problem mentioned above, incidentally, is not a printing issues -- everthing prints in the correct font and style. The bolding issue is just a viewing issue -- and again across the board on all machines and also the test cd I burned with dup files. Hope this helps. James
May 8, 200223 yr Avoid printing portals. Instead, do the printing from the database that holds the related records. Bring the master information over through a relationship and display it on a Leading Grand Summary.
May 9, 200223 yr I don't know what's up with your portal, but I have had some weird stuff happen (similar to your random bolding) when I was using MS Sans Serif font on Windows 2000. If you're using MS Sans Serif, you might consider switching to Arial or Times New Roman.
May 10, 200223 yr Author Goos Thank you for your post. I was prematurely excited and went immediately to task to try and find Sans Seriff -- to no avail. The Portal issue seems to have solved itself -- don't know how -- but it has. Let me try and explain, in further detail, the bolding isssue. The bolding happens sporadically in all databases (I have recovered all to no avail). If you click into a field, or out of a field -- each field individually (as you click into fields) bold or ALL fields bold. When you move to another layout within the database and then return -- eveything is normal -- until you start typing within a field. The "unbolding" of the fields can also occur my clicking outside of a field on the layout -- but not always and sometimes bolds all fields on the layout if not already bolded. I also have an issue at times of the layout changing the color scheme on me. . .and only on a few machines -- not all of them. This is corrected by exiting the solution and signing back on. We operate on windows 2000 server and 98 - xp stations. This is driving me bananas -- and has been going on for a month Any further insight oh wise one? Please. James P.S. I have attached a sample file for your "attempt" at trying to make it misbehave. Simply click in a field and out of the field until the bolding issue shows up -- on this particular file, moving to the next record undoes the bolding. Hope this helps
May 15, 200223 yr I wouldn't exactly call myself "wise one." I can't even get your attachment to work. When I click on the attachment it says the page cannot be found. I've never used attachments before, so let me know if there's something else I should be doing.
May 16, 200223 yr Author Goos -- I havent tried the attachments either -- just saw that it was an option and attached -- Let me try another attachment. James Here you go
May 24, 200223 yr Author Goos I seem to have fixed the "intermittent bolding" issue -- There was a small global field containing our logo that I placed on every layout (sorta like a signia) -- and noticed that when I created a new data base without this signia -- it did not bold. I went through each layout and deleted this global field and no more bolding. I can't figure out why this would have caused such a problem. Do you have any intelligence on the issue (I checked and it was Arial font). The global field was bolded; could this have been the issue? Nevertheless, I do not have employees threatining to throw computers out the window any longer. lol James P.S. Where do you suppose I would post to learn more on how to attach a file to this board so that in the future I am able to utilize this feature of the forum
May 28, 200223 yr Glad you got it fixed. Very interesting problem, and I have no idea why the global was causing the problem. I also don't know about the attachment problems. I've never tried to attach anything. I think I looked in FAQs once, but didn't see anything about it. Maybe a post in the "FM Forums Feedback and Support" forum would get an explanation.
