Cursor placement after copying a record problem

Featured Replies

First and foremost, on this Thanksgiving Day I want to thank all the FMP gurus here for their timely assistance in helping me answer and solve the questions and problems I've posted here over the year. I'm sure I speak for everyone that we're all very grateful that you're here.

I feel incredibly sheepish asking this: Why I'm having a problem inserting the cursor into an empty field--after running a script that copies a

record--so the user can start filling that field with data? I've tried a number of ways to script it using the Go to Field, Go to Object, Set Selection, Insert Text script steps but for whatever reason(s) I just can't get the cursor to appear (in the specified field). I'm sure I'm forgetting something, I just don't remember what. :P

Hi Rich,

First I will totally agree with you ... I too am very grateful for all the assistance I have received over the years because of this forum and the people who assist us here.

What does it show when you walk through debugger? Do you get an error? Go To Field [ ] should work. If it is not going to that field so User can begin typing, and if you have the script step at the end of your script then it might be a few other things (here are two you can check):

1) The field on the layout belongs to different table occurrence than the one pointed to in your script

2) Your script exits before it hits the last step of Go To Field[]

But really we cannot say without seeing your script (preferably the file itself). :ahappy:

Include yourself as one of the helpful gurus, LaRetta! Are you still riding your bike or is it in storage for the season? I'm still riding here in Austin.)

I went through the debugger again and this time spotted the culprit: one of the sub-scripts had a Commit Records script step near its end so it took away the focus from the field.

*sigh* It's always that one little thing...

I am pleased you found the issue, Rich. It is still bike-able weather for another month or so (here in Oregon). :wink3:
