Lasso to replace Claris HomePage

Featured Replies

I currently use Claris Homepage to create the CDML needed for hosting our databases on the web. I know that this is no longer supported and although everything is working well and the sollution is not difficult to use, I am looking for a replacement. I am not sure if Lasso is that replacement. I would like to know how difficult it is to use Lasso to generate the CDML that Claris does. If so, which of Lasso's many products is the right sollution. I am looking for ease of use. We will potentially be having novice FM users creating database that are web enabled.

Thanks

Sherry

Hi

This information is based on my knowledge of Lasso 3.6, I assume blueworld will have kept similar features for Lasso V

Lasso has a module which supports CDML (nearly all tags, but a few are not supported and have to be replaced with the Lasso equiv. ) you will also have to change the form action to

action.lasso

or

response_page_name.lasso

(depending on how u use Lasso: see earlier posts) with CDML i think it is FMPro

As far as the FMPro databases.......my web databases are very very simple I do all the work with Lasso (because of the greater amount of tags u can) and only really use the database to store results of the Lasso processing so the onus is on the web developer not the DB guy.

As a replacement of Claris Homepage can purchase Lasso studio for Dreamweaver and Go-Live (Plug-In) which automates many processes, I don't use these, not because I don't think they are good, just that i enjoy coding. I have heard that these products take much of the work out of getting a Lasso solution up and running and are ideal for the novice.

There is a learning curve with Lasso especially when using developing methods such as the Corral Method

http://www.corralmethod.org

http://www.corralmethod.org/pdf_docs/corral_v1.pdf

but the beauty of it is that u can start using your existing stuff fairly quickly with a few modifications (most web design packages have a find and replace function ) and then develop new and more powerfull solutions as u familiarise ure self with the Lasso tags.

In short u wont have to go through to much of a painful process to get ure existing stuff working with Lasso and u will have a large number of new and powerfull features...the only draw back is that for some it is a substantial investment.....but for commercial use there is a very good business case...

some useful sites to get more info

hope this helps
