I'll bet that you can't find one field in a complex layout!

My main layout is a rats nest of over two hundred fields. Some fields are duplicated (aargh!)

The layout body stretches down some 60 inches, and things are sometimes almost randomly

placed.

Yes, it's so messy that I can't find where one particular field is located on the layout.

(is it over on the bottom left of the layout? On the right side, fifteen fields from the top?)

Of course, I should clean things up. But to do so, I have to find the fields that show up

two or three times on this layout.

Is there any way to be in layout mode and then find the location of a field ? ? ?

I'll bet that there isn't ... can you prove me wrong?

Perhaps something like a "GO TO FIELD" or "Set format of Customer Size to Green"

(yes, each field is named when in layout mode, but this doesn't help much

when each field has a long name but not enough field size to display the name)

Thanks!

Well, if you enter Find mode and set your field to a value, then all the instances of the field on that layout will be showing that value, and all other fields - except global fields - will be empty.

Hi Cliff,

It is easy to clean up that layout. Sort your table by field name (in field definitions, select upper right pop-up called 'view by'). Then create a new layout based upon the same table occurrence as your messy layout. Select Move All to grab all fields ... note that the fields are now in order.

Delete all the fields from your messy layout, copy all fields from new layout, and paste them into your old layout then delete your new temp layout. This whole process only takes 5 seconds tops and, now that the field names are in order (and the duplicates are gone), finding fields will be piece of pie!! :yep:

UPDATED: I should mention that if you have summary fields, I would place them within the second tab of a two-tab tab panel so they do not evaluate every time you view the layout but rather only when you select the second tab.
