I'm having a bit of trouble on a value list in a way I have never encountered before. As you can see in the popup, the value list shows two fields. The first field is a number field, the second is text.

I would like the user to be able to select the item by typing the account number. However, a strange behavior is happening. When I start to type the number, the value list disappears and then only the numbers typed so far show in the field. Now, If I change the value list to sort by the second field, the description, it allows the selection of the value list by typing the account number. I have never seen this behavior before.

Sorry about the small images but I can't figure out how to get them to show properly. I found if I right-click and open image in new window, they are viewable at full size.

Is the the dropdown field glClass? Place a desGLClass field directly on top of the existing glClass field. Format it with an opaque background and set its behavior to not allow entry in Browse mode. The dropdown will work the way it does now, and then the description will be shown on the layout in the desGLClass field as soon as the selection is made.

Why do you want to type in the account number? Just selecting it from the dropdown prevents the inevitable transcription errors, as well as the problem you described with a partial number entry.

That is not really the problem. I already do what you are referring to. The problem is, in this particular solution, users tend to know the account numbers as they have been working with them for so long that they like to type them. Hands on the keyboard and not on the mouse allow much faster data entry. Even if one wanted to use the mouse, when the main glClass field has may entries (accounts go down to the 8000 range), you get there much quicker by typing the first numbers of the account number. What I don't understand is why it works if you are sorting by field 2? We don't want to sort by field 2 because the accounts should be grouped by their glClass, not alphabetically.

What should also be noted in the above is if the first field has letters instead of numbers, it works. What seems to be causing the issue is having numbers in the first field and sorting by the first field.
