different table for number groups?

Featured Replies

Not sure how to even ask this one but I know it is relation question so here goes.

My daughter is creating her first db and she wants to sell necklaces. I have standard invoices with line items and products but she wants to change the each price depending upon how many. So 1-3, regular price, 3-5 5% discount and over 5 10% discount but she wants to put the prices in herself so they look more price friendly so they may not be exactly 5% or 10% discounts.

Do I make another table for these group prices because there might be 1 or 5 or maybe 10 different prices for a single product? And do I use one field for the 'number' of the group? Like 1-3 and then 3-5? Or do I make a record for 1, then a record for 2 etc?

And relate to products and then how do then find that as lookup? And how to lookup to lineitems? I do not know even how to search for help on this because I do not know what it would be called. If anyone knows of a sample or threads, I would appreciate it. Or ideas on setting this up? She expects me to know. Just because I am a PhD does not mean I know everything. In fact, well, I know very little. And I certainly can't figure how to set this up for her.

If you would like a sample file to work off of I can supply but it is standard like I learned here using correct ID. Thank you for considering my need.

Oh and each necklace may have different discounts so the prices will be many to one product, I think.
