Is there an easy way of duplicating a record within a portal? I expect CTRL D (windows) will duplicate the record of the table I am in and not the portal. Would I need a script to do this?

Yes, you'd need a script. The simplest script would probably be: go to the related record, duplicate it, then go back to the original layout. Put a button to run this script next to the portal's fields, within the portal.
