scripting issues with shared databases

is there a 'white paper' that covers scripting issues with shared databases? For example, I believe the 'Replace Contents' script step will not work if one of the records in the found set is being edited by another client, and will not give an error.

I'd like to head off problems rather than get surprised for them.
