POS and Stock Managing?

Hi,

I am new to FileMaker Pro. I have a question that Can we make POS and Stock Control system with FileMaker using Bar code scanner and thermal printer for Prints?

If yes kindly tell me any guide on it or any material on how to make one?

Absolutely!

We (among others) have built a POS system in FM with barcoding. You can generate the barcodes in FM (1D and 2D, too), and print them on labels, and stick them on your products. Then you scan them back in to sell them.

We also sell barcode scanners that work with FileMaker out of the box, whether for desktop or iOS device (iphone/iPad).

As to how to make it, first you'll have to figure out what you want your system to do, write it out in a document. Then you can design the screens in a mockup app so you'll see what you'll be developing. Then you develop it in FM. At least that's how I work. :-)

You will need at least the following tables:

product

customer

invoice

invoice line

But if you want to keep stock, then you need more tables. It's not an easy endeavor, but it's doable.

I was asking my self a few question regarding the FileMaker.

1) In a POS system when we sell the Product we just swipe it thorough the Bar code Scanner and the data is added in the list. no need to press any button for other Products. Just swipe and they are in. How can we achieve this functionality?

2) Another feature that i need to achieve is print the receipt automatically on record commit. ?

Kindly address me to proper source of guidance on it. I am trying to make one.

You can certainly achieve this.

If you're on Windows you can program your scanner to initiate on an "F" key. Then you make sure your script is included in the menu. Then whatever "F" key it is at, you program the scanner or vice versa.

As to printing, when you "ring up" the customer, you can make your script to print whatever you want to your designated printer, aka. a receipt printer.
