Newbies Quandre2 Posted September 5, 2012 Newbies Posted September 5, 2012 I have recently inherited a File Maker database. I have access via my username and password but do not have admin access to be able to manage the database. The gentleman that set up the database is no longer with the company and I have been tasked with creating new users and importing external data. Is there anything that can be done?
Lee Smith Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 FileMaker used to retrieve passwords and User ID for a fee and proof that you owned the file.. Have you tried using Admin as the User ID and or Password? If the company owns the rights to the file, then they should demand the password and user id from the person who left. Search the web, there used to be companies that would do this also. The name of the application is FileMaker, not File Maker. Lee
Reed Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 I tried the demo version of this utility some time ago, and it worked. http://www.lostpassword.com/filemaker.htm The demo will only work if the password is 3 characters or less, but it worked on the test file I tried.
comment Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 I would be extremely wary of password crackware, as the cracked file may very well be unstable and unsuited for use in production. The only benefit to gain here is a peek at the schema, in order to replicate it in a new file. This is assuming that [a] you are willing to spend the time and effort to rewrite the solution, and you hold the legal rights to the existing solution - in which case you should be able to get the master password from the former employee, either by hook or by crook. 1
Steven H. Blackwell Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Comment is absolutely correct here about the potential negative effect of the cracker. Steven
